Visual arts have been a significant part of Mary Dove’s life for as long as she can remember. Her greatest delight is to capture ‘moments in time’ which, when shared with others, communicate an experience that becomes long remembered. `She loves telling a story through her creations that strike an emotional chord with the viewer. Her artwork is therefore at its best when expressing a passion for the subject matter she chooses. It’s a personal adventure that begins with the intellectual challenge of visual design and then the problem solving aspects of each new project.
Mary Dove, a resident of Sedona Arizona, Southwest artist and photographer; is an illustrator and communicator. Her personal delight it to "capture emotional moments in time," shared with the viewer providing and experience to be remembered. As an artist, she loves telling a story in pictures by striking an emotional cord for all times with the art enthusiast. Starting college as an architect major, she discovered her voice as an illustrator. Diversification is the hallmark found in her body of work. Subjects range from big game animals and wildlife; landscapes to architectural structures along with still life, animal and pet portraits. Her drawing and executed in pencil, charcoal pencil, conté chalk, pen and ink. Selected painting medium are watercolors, oil pastels, acrylics and mixed media skillfully used to evoke a quality of super realism with a sprinkle of photographic expressionism.
Growing up in Houston, Texas her Dad made sure she had "life experiences" with animals, wildlife, birds, nature, sports and food. These invaluable encounters enables her to breath life and a soul into the selected subject matter. Her experience in architecture, commercial art, technical illustration, graduating with a major in Art Education, enables her work to depict an understanding of structure; a keen eye for detail along with the skill of execution. The viewer is drawn into the work as a participant because of the emotions and respect brought to all levels of the pictorial story. Her "diversified interests" are conveyed through carefully selected themes which reflect the intent of this awareness of nature and structures. Her art career began in the 2nd grade with the drawing of a rabbit on her chalkboard. Little did the family know what the future would hold for this budding artist. Mary Dove has a self-developed technique in both her drawing and paintings. She has also chosen to be a self-published artist.
Mary Dove, artist, photographer, former high school art teacher and media consultant, California Real Estate Broker and Mortgage Banker, earned both a Bachelor and Master of Education Degree from Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas with a focus on Educational Technology, Art Education, Fine Art and Special Education.
